My Educational Philosophy

ACHIEVEMENT

I want all my students to be high achieving in their own right. Every student will have different goals. As their teacher I hope I can encourage them to achieve their goals.

FRIENDSHIP

School can be a very daunting place. Having friendships at school make students feel comfortable. I hope in my classroom I can help teach my students how to be good friends to all.

INCLUSION

As someone pursuing Special Education the value of inclusion is very important to me. To me it means that all students feel welcomed at school, they are represented at school, and they are advocated for at school.

KINDNESS

I’m a real believer that everyone deserves to be treated with equal kindness. I hope to instill in my students that the world would be a much nicer place if we were all a little bit kinder to each other.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Being a teacher means that I am guiding all of our futures. I want every student to feel empowered that they can make a difference, big or small, and leave their mark on the world!

About My EXPERIENCE

Simple Calendar Icon

I gained a lot of experience during my time as a camp counselor at a YMCA summer camp. For two years, I worked in our mainstream camp groups with ages K-6. I performed typical camp counselor responsibilities like planning games, behavior management, problem solving, and lots of quick thinking!

My third year I created an inclusion program and was made a lead camp counselor. I worked with our neurodivergent campers and their parents to create plans to ensure their needs were being met at camp. This meant working one on one with campers or working with the mainstream group counselors to guide them in including these campers.

I’m grateful that I was able to have so much hands on experience so early in my teaching career!

Highlights

  • Created an inclusion program at my YMCA summer camp & was made Lead Inclusion Counselor
  • Internship at P.A.T (Pediatric Advanced Therapy) Kids Clinic
  • Service trip to Hoonah, Alaska volunteering in their public schools
